RE-EVALUATE…. "X.I.E"

Posted in Revived Archives at 3:38 pm by [ b 2 c ]

However long the night, the dawn will break. That is what i can say as we had to face the deciding day for many students… we have the F.E (Sem 2) results out today… The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it….. Ihave just shown the marksheet showing mumbai university coz its just pointless showing the marks on the marksheet…

It was a sad day for many students as there were many who were on the battle field… and many have lost the battle… there was anger in many students as the papers were not corrected appropriately…

Its a real testing time formany students… Without courage, wisdom bears no fruit. I just admire the courage of so many students.. who have already shown some action…

Afterall this students have given their papers for re-evaluation. ya u need a hardwork to do that also…

Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.Student went to the university keeping their hope alive…

After reachin students found a huge crowd over ther as if ther was a protest over ther… many came ther with their hopes alive…. ther was a long queue for takin forms for re- evaluation…

After waitin for more than 1 1/2 hrs the forms were available… and then there was a queue for verification and paying money in the bank. After waitin for more than 3 hrs in the queue the work of revaluation was over and a single slip is given to all the students after which wether u wl get the process done in 1 mnth or more…

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish….

RAKSHA X.I.E BANDHAN…..

Posted in Revived Archives at 7:42 pm by [ b 2 c ]

Life in college becomes something of a curse to the enthusiastic ‘brothers’ of yore on the day of Raksha Bandhan. Much to their fright and dismay, the festival is not on the long list of national holidays. As colleges remain open, leading the pack of rakhi-brandishing women is the prettiest and most hottest girl in college. After that, all hell breaks loose as women hunt down their prey and seals the men’s fate forever.

When Students Turn Teachers, Boys to Girls and Windows to Linux

Posted in Revived Archives at 5:12 pm by [ b 2 c ]

The wait for the new Data Structures Lecturer is finally over.

We were told today morning that a new Data Structures Lecturer had been appointed. All of us were excited and relieved. Some felt disappointed as the era of Free Lectures had come to an end.
When he finally entered the class, we were all spellbound. This guy looked like a student, like us. What in the world was he doing here?
He then started teaching us the Stack Data Structure. Personally, I think he explains concepts exceptionally well. But for some reason, the majority of the class didn’t share my views.
He was really shy and nervous (you could see the sweat increasing every minute) and has the habit of using the ‘Uhh..’ stall-word. You can’t say he was stammering but you couldn’t say he wasn’t either.
When he felt that the noise-levels were going beyond control, he started asking people to stand up and answer questions.

And after all that, we didn’t even know his name and viceversa. Even though all of us hate those -introduction- sessions during the first lecture of every subject, we really felt the need to have one here. Since he wrote a source code example on the board with the name ‘Rahul‘ stored in a name variable, we can assume his name is Rahul.
He even referred to one of the girls as Ma’am. Now that was really something.
After the lecture, a trip to the toilet was amusing as well. I found a Sunsilk Sachet in the Guys Toilet. First of all, who takes a bath in College? Second of all, Why Sunsilk? At least he could have dumped it in the dust bin.
(Interesting Point to Note:
I have bolded the text he as the blog controversy started because of this questionable line.
People assumed that by using ’he’, I was referring to Rahul Sir although my point was entirely different.
I said ’he’, because whoever it was, it would have to be a male since I found it in a GENT’S TOILET.
People didn’t see this point even when I told them, and that got a lot of people including me into some serious trouble.
)
We had Data Structures practicals as well today. Our Lecturer thought it would be better if we got used to the Linux Environment, so he asked us to head to the other Lab and write code in Fedora Core 7.
I have some experience on Linux, so it didn’t really matter to me but since he asked everyone to use the vi editor, everyone thought that the entire User Interface of Linux is based on commands and that it isn’t as user friendly as Windows.
If I were him, I’d start out with a default Text Editor, KEdit or any other alternative which share the same keyboard shortcuts as Windows. Then I’d move on to vi.
That was another reason why people started disliking him more. Since everyone was used to the obsolete void main, getch() and clrscr() , they weren’t able to compile their programs. Nobody knew what the standards were and had no idea about portability of functions so that took some people for people to get used to.
We found out at this point that he had passed out from Watumull Engg. College and this was his first teaching assignment. Sounds similar to the F.I.T. Lecturer from St. Francis Inst. of Tech. doesn’t it?
Bottomline : Not many like Mr. Rahul yet.
Seriously, he’s really a swell teacher. Not many are able to teach that well. Of course, for the others it might take some time to get used to it.

Anonymous Mailing

Posted in Revived Archives at 2:30 pm by [ b 2 c ]

Ever wished you could post out here without letting me (or anybody else) know who wrote it?

Well, you can now.
I’ve written an Anonymous Mailer for you guys.

You can now write an email to anyone as anyone. Which means you can write an email to the Principal of our college faking my identity (name and email address)!!! (Please don’t do this ;) )

Click here to downoad my Anonymous Mailer. You will need .NET Framework 2.0 to run this App.

Since my webserver does not support .NET Web Services, I have to depend on another Email Web Service (Abysmal) instead of my own. And that’s why you get a stupid ad at the end of each email you send.
What’s worse, even your IP Address is sent out to the sender so that you can be traced.

But don’t worry. My App has support for Proxy Servers to hide your IP. Fill in your own IP or use the default Proxy Server that I have provided.

So if you wanna anonymously post something, Use this to send me an email and not to fool around ;)

Happy AnonyMailing…err…Blogging!!!

Paper Management

Posted in Revived Archives at 11:02 pm by [ b 2 c ]

First things first, SE.COMPS as a new lecturer for Discrete Structures. She can’t really project her voice in class so I couldn’t catch her name. I think her first name is Aparna. Will find out more about her tomorrow.

Finally something has been done to address the issue of shortage of XIE Sheets. Unfortunately its been overdone. Instead of selling us 2×50 Sheets for Rs.100 we now have to pay for 4×50 Sheets + Files at Rs. 240.

Even though they’re demanding the same price, who the hell wants 200 sheets at one shot? I still have about 100 left over from last semester and I have no option to purchase only 50 sheets this time.

What do you expect from such a deal? SHORTAGE!!! If each student gets 200 sheets, he is taking up twice the amount of sheets which could have been used by another student. I think they had planned to sell it only for EXTC students. And even out of those EXTC Students who decided to buy it, some could not because of shortage of the supersized XIE Sheets. Even if they had sold 100 sheets instead of 200, they could have accounted for twice the number of students.

Well, that’s our Management for you. I just hope that they had a better reason to give away 200 sheets in one go; and I’m hoping like hell that the reason isn’t the increase in the number of assignments for us. *gulp* That’s going to be a little hard to digest.

But I figured a part of that nightmare had already come true. Assignment submissions have already begun for SE.Comps and you can now see students spending more time in the Library (copying assignments) than in the classroom.

I’ve just got one grudge against our assignment system. We spend so much time and energy into writing our assignments and our lecturers don’t even take one glance at our assignments. They just flip through the pages just to check if everything looks complete (although it need not be) and then mark it with a Grade. That’s all the effort down the drain, isn’t it? (of course, it has its advantages which many students have already exploited)

Sarika Ma’am proved to be an exception to this. She actually asks questions while correcting the assignment. The experience makes me wish I had never written the previous paragraph before ;)

Now here’s the FUNtastic moment of the day.

During our EN Tutorial Session (taken by Sarika Ma’am), she entered our class and said: “I want all the 4 tutorials submitted by the end of the tutorials. Mein Oopar Ja rahi hoon. Complete hone ke baad Lab mein Aa Jana.

Mein Oopar ka rahi hoon“? She didn’t realise she was on the third floor. How much more UP can you get? Seems like Suicidal plans doesn’t it? ;)

And the minute she left the classroom, this is what our class looked like this.

Another thing I can’t get out of my mind is the guys who ‘mow’ our college grounds with grass clippers.

Why not use a Lawn Mower? You even get a small crowbar shaped tool that prunes grass every time you hit a golf-swing that’s pretty effective, fun and stimulating to the muscles. (Used by the Indian Army, Seriously).

When these guys squat to cut the grass, it really does look like a group of people who have crossed over from the slums from the other side to take a dump in fresh clean air.

All in all, a good day for me at least. Writing all those assignments sure paid off in the end. While walking back towards the station we met a Man who was trying to sell his Mixer Product. The Brand of his Mixer was too funny for us to miss. But there was something exceptional about this mixer that you won’t find in any other mixer anywhere in the world. A CAMERA!!!!

And you won’t believe this, but that guy was so desperate to advertise his product, he actually asked us to take a picture of his Mixer…
That’s all for today (Oh Crap, I just remembered I have to write 3 EDC Journal Experiments)

There are rumours that F.E. SEM-II results are tomorrow. So let’s see if its true.

CELL PHONES BANNED FROM COLLEGE

Posted in Revived Archives at 7:43 pm by [ b 2 c ]

Ironically, this notice was issued on 15th August 2007. A wonderful way to celebrate our Independence, isn’t it?

Unfortunately this is a Mumbai University Decision, so complaining to the College authorities isn’t going to make things better.
Do you guys know why Cell Phones are banned? The University thinks it DISTRACTS STUDENTS.
Wow, I never realised that by calling a friend and inquiring about Lectures and Assignments I was being distracted from studies.
And its not as if nobody will be distracted after all cell phones are banned. If anyone wants to be distracted, there are tons of things he can do to keep his mind away from studies. Its a mental state. Cell phones play a minor role in distracting students. But by banning them, there will be a lot more students who will start using it during college hours for the wrong reasons (just to look cool).
Infact Cell Phones are used by so many students to keep them focussed on their students. You can see many students taking pictures of their assignments (which are posted on the notice board) so that they can save time instead of writing it down and use this time for doing something productive.
Just because some students get distracted by cell phones, doesn’t mean that the majority gets distracted too.
If the same ban were to be implemented using this relation, Lectures and Practicals should be banned too. How many students do you know who take these things seriously?
Instead of updating our syllabus (ours is up-to-date only if we live in the 1980s), our university gives cell phones more importance.
At least things aren’t that bad for us. If sources are to be believed, students of Thadomal Shahani Engg. College are banned from wearing T-Shirts with printed quotes on them.
Weird huh?
So what they’re saying is that if on one day the only tshirt you have has something written on it, you’re better off not attending college.
I can suggest a nice TITLE for their Notice Board.
“TSEC thinks T-SUX”

An Official bunk…..

Posted in Revived Archives at 9:39 pm by [ b 2 c ]

Remember, attendance is very important for this semester and whoever has less than 75 per cent attendance will not get their hall-tickets” — This is a common `mantra’ chanted by many lecturers in our college. Sometimes, we often get a sound yelling from our HODs when we are caught up bunking the classes. And where do we hang around?

In the lunch room, in the library and the worst of all, in the canteen!

I personally feel, that bunking classes once in a blue-moon is no major sin, because we students love to have little thrills and adventures in our lives like escaping from the sharp eyes of our lecturers, giving proxy attendance for our friends and so on.

THIS IS (BUNKING) one subject that does not know generation gap. Ask your father, husband or brother (even sisters, of late) and they’ll all look equally wistful while talking about it.

The tradition of bunking classes in college is not yet passé.

“When the lecture gets boring and the subject puts you to sleep, it is better to stay out of class than being just physically present there,”

Everyone needs a break. That break makes us bounce back harder when we get back to class,”

We actually don’t need to bunk since its becoming “an official bunk” coz we don’t have lecturer’s for data and discrete structures…..

Same old classes, same old lecturers, quite boring!” But in fact, they are not the `same old’. Because each day is something new. Each moment is something rejuvenating. See folks, we have a choice now. Attending classes and utilising our time productively or bunking classes and sometime later in future looking back and musing over what all we missed in our college days.

Choice is ours!

Malhar 2007

Posted in Revived Archives at 2:52 pm by [ b 2 c ]

We all know that Malhar is one of the largest college festivals organised in Mumbai.
I’ve been going there for the past 2-3 years and trust me; this one was highly overrated.
I’m not going into the details of each and every event of Malhar. We have the ‘great’ YuVa – The Youth’s Mouthpiece (A Malhar Sponsor) to do that.
But what I’m about to mention is something that is rarely reported or discussed. So here goes.
I asked a friend to get me a pass for Amateur Night (AmNite) so I had gone to Xavier’s at around noon to collect the pass.
As always, there is a separate line for participants/VIPs and for the rest. I was near the participants line for a while and saw some real hilarious yet deploring moments.
For some reason, Xaviers took security measures to new heights. And why? ‘to prevent potential threats‘. Its pretty neat, as long as they stick to checking bags and pockets.
From what I saw out there, people’s HAIR was checked. Yes, HAIR!!! (Sure I have no reason to worry but what the hell ;) ) A guy’s hair was being checked for cigars and sharp objects. Another man’s beard was being checked for the same thing.
I mean come on, who would ever think of carrying cigars and stuff in your HAIR and beards??
They’re much better off guarding the walls. Its easier to jump in from there undetected (seriously).
A friend of mine had come to Xaviers from Pune to participate in an English Play. He had a laptop which was vital to the play. He wasn’t allowed to take it inside inspite of being a participant. Guns and Swords are allowed but Laptops aren’t. I could surely see what excellent choices were being made.
And at the end of the day these guys are satisfied with their ‘efficient’ checking since nothing tragic took place not realising that it wasn’t their efforts that stopped the incident. Who the hell would want to blow up Xaviers? What would he/she achieve? (As you can see, I ain’t sexist)
So its not that someone was stopped from doing something wrong. If one wanted to do something, there was no real resistance to stop him.
So even if no security measures were taken, nothing would go wrong.
To make things better, volunteers were given megaphones and walkie-talkies to help coordinate events. These guys didn’t even know how to use the megaphone. All they did was YELL!!!
And as for the walkie-talkies, sure people knew how to use them but for different purposes other than what it was intended for.
One girl with a walkie-talkie was enjoying a nice chat with her boyfriend (who was also a volunteer, go figure) who was arounnd the premises.
Nice work guys!!!
Registration got really tedious thanks to Zapak.com.
And after all that BS, the events turned out to be crap. I can’t blame the performers since I’m sure they too had their hair checked, and that experience could surely affect their performance.
And the most awaited event of all – Amateur Night was putrid. Not because the Bands sucked, but because of their terrible choices.
All of them wanted to show-off their skills rather than entertain the crowd.
They need to know that when I visit an event like this, I expect songs with Energy, songs that will make you jump and have fun, and not songs that will make you sit down and think:” Wow, this guy has some skill”
A dunce ‘Spaz’ sang out a song about his life (broken dreams, being dumped by his girl etc.). And if you think the choice of the song was pathetic and think about how it felt to hear it. He sang like a mixture of R.Kelly and Usher.
That was all for Day-1. Day 2 was comparitively better but we still had to deal with the brilliant security checks once again.
All in all, an amazing event ruined by extra-cautious organisers and sponsors.

SE(COMPS) in 360 Degrees

Posted in Revived Archives at 4:00 pm by [ b 2 c ]

I now have access to Panoramic Imaging Technology which enables me to capture pictures of any size (literally).

This technology (its been there for years) will add a new dimension to any picture taken using it.

To let you guys see the power of Panoramic Pictures, here’s a picture of the SE(COMPS) classroom during a lecture.

This one is a full 360 degree view (from the last bench) of our class-room that you can now see as a 2D Image.
